The California Department of General Services (DGS) is set to award a $238m contract to Rudolph and Sletten for the construction of new Sacramento building in California, US.

Rudolph and Sletten plan to execute a contract with DGS in February 2018. Design finalisation will begin following the contract.

Construction works involved in the project will include the demolition of the existing vacant annex building in mid-2018. Building works are set to be complete by early 2021.

Covering approximately 360,000ft2, the new solarpowered building will be constructed as a Zero Net Energy project. The building will consume 60% less water and aim to achieve LEED platinum certification.

In January, the DGS entered an agreement along with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District to use renewable energy to power all state buildings in downtown Sacramento.

Once completed, the new building will house more than 1,000 employees from the California Health and Human Services Agency, the Department of State Hospitals and the Department of Developmental Services.
