The Roleystone Community College in Western Australia (WA) has commenced a A$15.5m ($10m) redevelopment project to provide new, purpose-built learning facilities.

This initiative includes the construction of a new sports hall, an upgraded science, technology, engineering, and mathematics laboratory, and a drama studio to bolster the college’s performing arts programmes.

The new sports hall will offer all-weather physical education facilities for secondary students while the drama studio will support the expansion of drama, dance, and music programmes.

These developments are set to complement the college’s specialist film and television programme.

The anticipated completion of the construction is in early 2026.

WA Education Minister Tony Buti said: “This is an exciting upgrade for Roleystone Community College that will not only be an improvement for students and staff but also for the Roleystone community.

“One of the aims for this upgrade is for the college to become a central hub in Roleystone, with new buildings being made available for community use outside school hours.”

Darling Range legislative assembly member Hugh Jones said: “I am proud to join the school community at this important milestone as construction gets underway on my key election promise.

“This project invests in the future of our students with modern, purpose-built facilities that will enrich learning and create new opportunities for Roleystone Community College and the wider community.”

This redevelopment is part of the WA Government’s extensive A$4.8bn education infrastructure programme.

The programme aims to enhance educational facilities across the state, as demonstrated by the recent opening of the second stage of the A$100m Alkimos College earlier this month.

The budget for Alkimos College’s second stage was A$52.2m (A$100m in total state investment), featuring three new learning blocks and additional space for 700 students, raising the college’s capacity to 1,450 students.

The architectural design for these enhancements was provided by T&Z Architects, with construction by EMCO Building, completed last month.
