The Government of British Columbia, Canada has announced the selection of a preferred proponent team to design and build Phase 4 of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project near Golden.
The preferred proponent team is known as Kicking Horse Canyon Constructors. It includes Aecon Group, Parsons, and Emil Anderson Construction.
The fourth phase of Kicking Horse Canyon Project is being delivered by Transportation Investment Corporation (TI Corp) on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The project is valued at C$601m ($454m). The provincial government provides C$386m ($291m) for the project while the federal government provides C$215m ($162m).
The fourth phase represents the final part of the project that will include the widening of the 4.8km of narrow, winding two-lane highway up to a modern four-lane road, which can handle speeds up to 100kmph.
TI Corp will offer the controls, practices and other supervision services that are required for the project, which will be delivered under the Province’s Community Benefits Agreement (CBA).

Limited early works, such as geotechnical investigations and preliminary clearing, will commence this fall before the final contract award later this year. The provincial government said that traffic impacts are expected to be minimal during this period.
The project is expected to be completed in winter 2023-24.
To help prevent the spread of Covid-19, the provincial governments said the measures including physical distancing and other protocols are in place to ensure worker and public safety.
