Philippines-based telecommunication company PLDT along with ePLDT is all set to construct the country’s largest data centre.
The data centre facility will be used to meet the requirements of power and information technology (IT) requirements of global hyperscalers.
Initially, it will be Tier-3 certified, and once it becomes operational it will become a Tier-4 facility.
PLDT’s move to build the data centre in the Philippines is said to be in line with the government’s objective to make the country an important destination for hyperscalers.
The company plans to further expand its data centres network in the country to meet the requirements of the hyperscalers, especially by providing service to their availability zones.
These zones are considered as core nodes of hyperscalers global network for delivering the cloud solutions.

By GlobalDataPLDT vice-president and ICT Business for Enterprise head Nico Alcoseba said: “To support the growing needs of global technology giants and cloud service providers expanding in the region, we at the PLDT Group are proud to announce that we will be building the first hyperscaler data centre facility in the Philippines.
“This hyperscaler data centre is a first of its kind. It will have more power capacity in one facility versus all our 10 VITRO data centres combined. It will also be designed to be global class in energy efficiency and reliability and will make use of the latest in green technology.”
Currently, the company operates the largest data centre network in the Philippines with its VITRO Data Center facilities which are located in different strategic locations.
These facilities are connected to PLDT’s extensive participation in 14 international submarine cable systems and one terrestrial system, which carries data traffic in and out of the country.
Three more new submarine cables including Jupiter Cable system, Apricot Cable, and Asia Direct Cable are in construction phase.
