The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a flood mitigation project and a farm-to-market (FMR) road in Marinduque.
The projects, in the municipalities of Boac and Gasan, were executed by the DPWH Marinduque District Engineering Office (DEO).
They were aimed at bolstering community resilience and boosting the local economy.
The flood control structure, measuring 88 linear metres, was constructed in Barangay Bachao Ibaba, Gasan.
This initiative was funded under the country’s General Appropriations Act 2023 with an investment of 4.9m pesos ($84,764).
DPWH Marinduque district engineer Richard Emmanuel Ragragio said: “The newly completed river wall is a significant measure in establishing a sustainable and resilient infrastructure that will protect residents from the threat of flooding and water overflowing to their properties, livestock, and essential resources.”

By GlobalDataMeanwhile, in Boac, a 279 linear metre FMR road was developed to connect agricultural communities with market centres, facilitating the movement of local produce.
The 4.6m pesos road concreting project in Barangay Duyay included a Portland concrete cement pavement, gravel shoulders, and a lineal canal.
It also comprised stone masonry, ensuring its durability and resilience against harsh weather.
The latest announcement comes after the DPWH revealed that it had created separate master plans for 18 river basins in the Philippines to tackle the frequency of rainfall caused by climate change.
Last month, the DPWH announced progress on bridge construction in Tawi-Tawi, part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
These initiatives are being financed by the Asian Development Bank under the Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project.
