Nordic construction company Peab has been tasked with the construction of a new building for the University of Gothenburg’s School of Business, Economics and Law in Sweden.

The contract, awarded by property company Akademiska Hus, is valued at Skr350m ($34.7m).

The forthcoming facility will span 10,800m² across eight storeys, including a basement.

It will house two auditoriums, student services, a café, offices, and student workspaces.

Additionally, the new building’s main entrance will connect to the future Haga Station of the West Link rail project.

Sustainable construction is a focus, with material selection and practices such as reusing marble flooring from the older building in a new footbridge.

This project will commence immediately, aiming for completion in 2027.

It will be registered in Peab’s order books for the first quarter of 2025.

Peab region manager Stellan Haraldsson said: “We look forward to starting this project together with Akademiska Hus. Since the school will run parallel to our work, we’ll have to deal with logistic challenges that put high demands on us as the contractor. Our experience of similar inner-city projects will be valuable to this project.”

Akademiska Hus project director Ali Ranji said: “The new building for the School of Business, Economics and Law will be a fantastic centre of knowledge that will strengthen both research and education in the heart of Gothenburg.

“We’re pleased to be able to contribute to the university’s development with a modern and sustainable building and look forward to having Peab as our partner in the completion of the project.”

Recently, Peab secured a Skr200m contract to build a nursing home and preschool in Trönninge, Varberg, Sweden.
