The Swedish Transport Administration has awarded Peab a Skr335m ($33.3m) contract to continue rebuilding Lund’s E22 highway.

This project aims to improve traffic safety and flow by adding additional lanes and constructing a new interchange at Ideon.

The E22 highway, along with the Lund Norra exit, is currently experiencing high traffic volumes.

Additionally, the City of Lund plans to densify the Ideon area and develop the new Brunnshög district further.

The new interchange is designed to accommodate the expected increase in traffic from these developments.

In addition to the interchange, the project includes the construction of extra lanes in both directions between the Gastelyckan and Lund Norra interchanges.

The expansion is expected to alleviate congestion and reduce the risk of accidents.

Planning for the project will commence immediately, with production anticipated to begin in August 2025.

The expected completion date for the entire expansion is November 2027.

Peab region manager Göran Wiking said: “Just like the Lund Södra interchange, this is a large and complex project and our work includes the challenge of disrupting traffic as little as possible. We will also strive to reduce the Swedish Transport Administration’s climate calculations by 48% by using our ECO-products like ECO-Betong (ECO-Concrete) and ECO-Asfalt.”

Swedish Transport Administration project manager Wali Hamid said: “We’re bringing Sweden closer together by creating the conditions for regional development and business while enabling the best possible and safest transportation and travel route, regardless of where you live, and we’re doing it with consideration to the environment and health.”

Prior to this, the company secured a Skr280m contract to build new test facilities and offices for BAE Systems Hägglunds in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, with the project set for completion by late 2026.
