Swedish construction and civil engineering firm Peab has secured a contract worth $23.9m (SEK204m) from the Swedish Transport Administration to construct two bridges in Upplands-Bro, Sweden.
Under the contract, the company will be responsible for the construction of a movable bridge on Road 263 that runs over Håtunaviken at Erikssund on the border of Sigtuna Municipality and Upplands-Bro Municipality.
The other bridge will be constructed on Road 841 that runs over Almarestäket at the border of Järfälla Municipality and Upplands-Bro Municipality.
These two movable bridges will replace the two old bridges that have reached the end of their technological life.
Peab stated that the new bridges will have wider lanes and will feature special lanes for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Construction work of both the bridges is anticipated to commence in the fall of this year with completion planned in 2024.
Peab Civil Engineering product manager Thomas Larsson said: “We’re very pleased to be part of building two new bridges that improve traffic safety and bearing capacity.
“Participating in making sure we have safe and reliable bridges is important work for us as community builders and we are proud of it.
“We have found a number of synergies between the two bridges such as technical constructions already now in the planning stage.”
Recently, the company won a SEK109m contract from Skiab Invest to build 42 apartments in three buildings on a mountainside in Åre.
These buildings will be four- to five-storeys and located adjacent to Åre Björnen in the Sadel area.
