Nordic community builder Peab has signed a contract to rebuild the existing town hall in Strängnäs, Sweden.

Awarded by Strängnäs Fastighets, the contract, which is in partnering form, is worth Skr240m ($23.12m).

The project comprises rebuilding the existing town hall to create a workplace centred around activities. The premises and the working environment will be modernised.

The renovation will encompass a gross area of 11,300m², with an additional extension covering 1,020m².

Strängnäs Fastighets project manager Niklas Nybro said: “We’re happy to be part of this collaboration with Strängnäs Municipality and Peab.

“Our goal is for the town hall to be a modern, accessible and energy-efficient building that reflects our common vision for a sustainable future.”

Strängnäs Municipality director Lars Ekström said: “Rebuilding the town hall will create the right conditions to expand collaboration among the municipal group of companies. It will promote working together, innovation and our ability to deliver even better public services to our residents.”

Peab region manager Nils Staffansson said: “We are happy to be involved and contribute to the development of Strängnäs. We’re really enthusiastic about taking on this partnering project.”

Construction is expected to commence in mid-2024, with completion anticipated in late 2026.

The order will be registered by Peab in the second quarter of this year.

Last month, Peab secured a turnkey contract to construct an industrial building in the Fosie area of eastern Malmö, Sweden.

It will be constructed adhering to the Miljöbyggnad Gold and LFM30 sustainability standards.
