Peab has received a contract to construct a new ice skating rink in Alingsås, Sweden, for Alingsåshem.

This contract carries a value of Skr218m.

The Nordic builder will construct the ice skating rink in the Nolhaga area, where currently there is an ice skating rink.

The new ice skating rink will feature two stories and accommodate 500 spectators.

It will also include a storage room, locker room, gym, offices and work-out room.

The rink will be built to meet the requirements specified by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association for division 1 matches.

Peab region manager Liselott Bergkvist said: “The ice skating rink is a project that I know means a lot for the whole community, which gives extra meaning to being part of building it. We really look forward to starting construction and contributing to a new, updated ice skating rink for Alingsås residents. There are a lot of us that will enjoy sports events here and will be very proud that Peab is in the bones of the building.”

The heat and energy generated by the ice production will be reused in the nearby swimming pool facility.

Swerock’s ECO-Betong (ECO-Concrete) will also be leveraged to help reduce carbon emissions by up to 50% against conventional concrete.

Alingsåshem business area manager Christer Winther Halldén said: “This feels fantastic. We’ve worked intensively on this project and look forward to materializing it. Nolhalla Ice Skating Rink will be a lovely addition to Nolhaga Park and an arena Alingsås residents can be proud of.”

This turnkey contract will be undertaken by Peab in partnering mode.

The construction of the ice skating rink will begin in the second quarter of 2023.

Peab plans to complete the project at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

It will register this contract in Q4 2022.
