Nordic company Peab has secured a contract from Götene Municipality to construct a new swimming pool facility in Götene, Sweden.

The turnkey contract in partnering form is valued at Skr250m ($23.2m).

The new facility is set to be built in the Västerby area of Götene, which is already home to a sports field, school, and residential housing.

The new project will feature multiple amenities, including a 25m pool with six lanes, a multipurpose pool with a height-adjustable floor, a relaxation zone, and an inclusive play area with various pool types.

The new facility, which replaces the demolished 53-year-old swimming pool building, will reuse bricks from that building’s outer walls in its construction.

The art wall pieces and marble benches from the old building will also be utilised in the new structure.

The latest construction contract follows a first-phase agreement, which involved discussions with Götene Municipality to arrive at optimised plans for quality along with risk management.

The second phase, which deals with project implementation, has now commenced, with work set to begin immediately.

The new facility is anticipated to be completed by 2028.

Peab region manager Stellan Haraldsson said: “We’re both happy and proud that Peab can participate in the development of Götene and that we’re the contractor in this collaborative project which focuses on long-term sustainable solutions. We hope the new swimming pool facility will be an important place for exercise and relaxation as well as socialising for all ages.”

Götene Municipality Culture and Leisure sector manager Åsa Eklund said: “We’re very pleased to be able to build the new swimming pool facility in Götene. It will be a great place for the area and its inhabitants and improve the quality of life for everyone who lives here.

“This project has been made possible thanks to the fantastic collaboration with Peab and all the other committed parties who want to see positive changes in our area.”

Yesterday (4 March), Peab secured another turnkey contract from Region Skåne valued at Skr339m for the construction of a bus depot in Lockarp in Malmö, Sweden.
