Construction and property services company Willmott Dixon, in partnership with Oxford Brookes University in the UK, has celebrated a new construction milestone.  

A ceremony was held to mark the topping out of the new buildings being built at the university’s Headington Hill campus.

Willmott says it will incorporate modern construction principles and focus on promoting responsible and sustainable development for the new Headington Hill buildings.

Upon completion, the buildings are hoped to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics studies at the university.

The project also aims to boost creative industry activities as part of the university’s long-term Oxford Campus Vision.

The new facilities are scheduled to open in time for the 2024/25 academic year and will include the university’s School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics, which is currently housed at Wheatley.

The buildings will also house the university’s Schools of Architecture and Built Environment, in addition to its School of Arts.

Oxford Brookes University vice-chancellor Alistair Fitt said: “The construction of these two innovative buildings is moving at a fast pace, and we look forward to opening the doors in the 2024/25 academic year.

“Students, staff, industry partners and the local community are going to benefit immensely from the rich and stimulating environment that these fantastic new spaces will offer, where they can learn, study, work and socialise.”

The three-storey classroom facility at the site will feature innovations such as immersion and robotics laboratories, as well as modern technologies, including VR, AR, mixed reality, and 3D printing.
