The government of India’s Odisha state has announced the construction of a 2,600km Grand Ring Road to bolster connectivity between districts and reduce travel times.
This extensive network is expected to allow uninterrupted travel within 24 hours, connecting Malkangiri’s Motu to Mayurbhanj’s Tiring, reported Odishatv.in.
The initiative includes a dedicated ring road around the mineral-rich areas of Keonjhar and Barbil, with an investment of Rs22bn ($260m).
Further development plans include constructing ring roads around major cities such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri to alleviate congestion.
Odisha works minister Prithiviraj Harichandan highlighted the state government’s detailed strategy for the development and maintenance of these road networks.
He said: “This infrastructure project is expected to cost approximately Rs910bn and is slated for completion within the next three years.
