Octavius has secured the first phase of the A1331 dual carriageway construction near Colchester, east of the University of Essex, UK.

Prior to this construction phase, Octavius was engaged in the early contractor involvement stage, where it completed the detailed design work for the scheme in collaboration with Essex County Council.

The project is designed to connect the A120 with the A133.

Octavius will now be responsible for the construction of a 1.8km dual carriageway road connecting the new roundabout on the A133 to the ‘Allen’s Farm Roundabout’ to the north.

This development is set to support the development of the Colchester Border Garden Community project which encompasses new housing and an employment park.

Octavius managing director Gavin Pritchard said: “We are excited to have had such a successful collaboration with Essex County Council to get this project to implementation. We can now focus on delivering this vital section of new infrastructure that will enable these much-needed new homes.

“This is a particularly pleasing outcome and a testament to our ongoing commitment to provide sustainable transport solutions that encourage local economic growth supported through our impactful social value and local employment initiatives.

“The project incorporates stretching carbon and waste reduction plans, community investment and the extensive use of our local supply chain.”

The scheme is supported financially by a bid for £99.9m ($131.01m) from the Housing Infrastructure Fund, administered by Homes England.

Earlier in the year, Octavius was chosen by Norfolk County Council for the construction of the Long Stratton bypass, a single-carriageway road spanning approximately 3.9km.

This bypass will initiate at a new junction at Church Lane to the north and will extend southwards, rejoining the existing A140 near Oakside Farm.
