The State Government of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia has announced a new place strategy and masterplan for Macquarie Park, which will be transformed into an innovation precinct.
Macquarie Park is expected to play a key role as an innovation precinct and an economic powerhouse in the North District of Sydney.

NSW Department of Planning and Environment Metro Central and North, planning and land use strategy executive director Alison McLaren said the plan would help in the transition of Macquarie Park from a business park to a world-class innovation precinct.
The place strategy and master plan will provide a framework for detailed neighbourhood master plans and future rezoning such as more specific details on height limits and open space.
McLaren added: “Macquarie Park already boasts a bustling business hub today, and our plan aims to develop it even further with around 20,000 new jobs into the future, focused on education, health, technology and advanced manufacturing.
“The Metro, which has already transformed the way people move along the northwest corridor, will enable the staged delivery of seven new suburbs that can support up to 7,650 homes.”

By GlobalDataThe Macquarie Park plan aims to create vibrant new neighbourhoods comprising restaurants and entertainment, including a 40% canopy cover in residential areas.
It also comprises sporting fields, up to 20ha of new parks and open space, and about 27km of new roads, footpaths and cycleways.
Macquarie Park’s residential developments will include seven new suburbs.
The Department of Planning and Environment will partner with Council to create neighbourhood masterplans.
Last year, NSW Government approved a new A$264m ($168m) data centre in Macquarie Park.
