NRW Contracting has been selected as the preferred proponent for the design and construction of two new interchanges on Reid Highway in Western Australia (WA).
The A$225m ($147.96m) Reid Highway interchanges project, funded jointly by the Australian and WA governments, aims to alleviate congestion in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs.

The project will construct two free-flowing interchanges to replace the signalised intersections at Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road.
Reid Highway is set to undergo alterations, enabling it to pass over Altone Road.
Besides, a new bridge is planned for construction to allow Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road to pass over Reid Highway.
Access ramps and roundabouts will also be built to ensure connectivity to and from the motorway.

To enhance accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians, new bridges and underpasses will be constructed, creating a seamless shared path network from West Swan Road to Malaga Drive.
WA Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Federal Minister Catherine King said: “The Australian Government continues to work closely with the Western Australian Government to deliver critical road, rail and cycling infrastructure to improve safety and reduce congestion.
“Reid Highway is a vital freight route across Perth’s northern suburbs and the progressive removal of signalised intersections is delivering shorter, safer and more predictable journey times.”
Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road are among the last five signalised intersections along Reid Highway.
The increasing traffic volumes resulting from ongoing residential and commercial development in Perth’s north-eastern corridor are said to have led to congestion at these intersections.
In addition, Reid Highway serves as a crucial east-west freight route, the government noted.
Construction is set to commence in the first half of 2024 and is expected to be completed by early 2026.
