Global construction and property development company Multiplex has secured a deal to build the University of New South Wales’ (UNSW) new A$174.4m ($132.4m) Science and Engineering Building (SEB) in Australia.
To be situated at the corner of International Road and Third Avenue within the UNSW campus, the new SEB will help the university to expand the Physical Sciences Precinct at its Kensington campus.
The SEB has been designed by architect Grimshaw and will feature ten levels. It will also include 24,000m² of teaching and research facilities for the School of Chemical Engineering and the School of Chemistry, with the flexibility to accommodate a range of technical research requirements.
The new building will be linked with Hilmer Building to facilitate easy sharing activities between the two buildings.
Multiplex New South Wales regional managing director David Ghannoum said: “Our previous work with the university has given us the credentials to deliver these highly technical facilities in an active campus environment.”
The SEB will be an extension of the Hilmer Building and will include a flexible laboratory core, with modules arranged around a central service corridor.
