UK-based Marks Barfield Architects has started construction for i360 at Brighton Beach in East Sussex, UK, which is touted as the tallest viewing tower in the country.
Rising up to 162m (531ft), the observation tower is scheduled to open in 2016, reports BBC.
Steel tubes are being delivered to Brighton Beach for the construction, which has been described as ‘cans’ by the architects.
Architect David Marks revealed that the construction will have 17 such cans stacked on top of each other, and will be secured with 112 bolts between the layers.
Width for each of the tubes will be a bit less than 4m (13ft) for the tower, whose height will be 40 times more than its width.
The tower will feature an aerodynamic pod that will offer air-conditioning in the summer and cooling in winter.

By GlobalDataDisassembling of the jacking frame is likely to be done later this year, before construction starts on the tower and pod.
Marks Barfield Architects intend to construct the observation pod at a height of 138m (452ft), which will have the capacity to accommodate up to 200 people at a time.
The construction has been designed by the same team at Marks Barfield architects, which had been responsible for the London Eye.
Once completed, i360 is expected to attract at least 700,000 visitors every day.
