Kier Construction has finished the first phase of the new £27m eco-friendly Sidney Stringer Academy in Coventry, UK.
The three-storey academy, designed by Sheppard Robson architects, features 13,000m² of educational space including teaching areas, a library and a sixth-form centre, dining, cafe facilities and a theatre with retractable seating.

The eco-friendly facility is based on a heavyweight building structure that provides natural heat and cooling, solar-controlled glazing on southern aspects and passive cooling using night purge ventilation.
The sustainable features of the building include intelligent lighting controls which offer automatic daylight dimming and absence detection, as well as condensing boilers and low energy cooling to teaching areas.
The facility is aiming to achieve at least a BREEAM Very Good rating.
Kier will now commence construction work on a two-storey leisure centre, which will be linked to the main academy building and will house a four-court sports hall and fitness centre.
