Chelsea Football Club's proposal for a new £500m stadium to be built on its existing Stamford Bridge ground has been approved by the Mayor of London.
The new stadium has been designed by Herzog and de Meuron, the architecture firm that was also responsible for designing the Birds Nest Olympic stadium in Beijing and Allianz Arena in Munich.

The redevelopment of the stadium will increase its seating capacity to 60,000 from the existing 41,600.
Plans also include the construction of an elevated walkway over the nearby District Line that will connect the stadium with the Fulham Broadway station.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “London is one of the world’s greatest sporting cities and I’m delighted that we will soon add Chelsea's new stadium to the already fantastic array of sporting arenas in the capital.
“Having taken a balanced view of the application, I’m satisfied this is a high-quality and spectacular design which will significantly increase capacity within the existing site, as well as ensuring fans can have easy access from nearby transport connections.

Chelsea’s proposal was unanimously approved by the Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s planning committee in January.
The football club also included a proposed investment of £12m in community activities such as employment and skills training. The plan is set to contribute roughly £3.75m to affordable housing initiatives in the borough.
Sadiq Khan had previously approved the plan for new stadium for AFC Wimbledon, another association football club based in London.
