Developer Calthorpe Estates and mixed-use property regeneration specialist U+I have submitted a planning application to Birmingham City Council for a £300m revamp project of a commercial site in the UK.

The designated site covers an area of 10 acres and is located on the west side of Birmingham along Hagley Road (A456), which is considered the main route leading into the city.

The project will see the construction of an urban development named New Garden Square, featuring 400 residential apartments, in addition to an area of 56,500m2 set aside for office space.

Also included in the plans are a 100-bed hotel and a 2,400m2 retail district consisting of bars, restaurants and convenience stores.

The project will retain the existing Grade II listed buildings in the front of Hagley Road.

"If planning is granted we will be looking at delivering the first phase of the scheme in early 2020, perfectly timed around the planned Sprint and Metro extension."

Parking space to accommodate up to 900 vehicles, and a 180m-by-30m landscaped garden square with a series of interlinked green patches, has also been announced as part of the development.

Birmingham’s Glenn Howells Architects has been appointed as the project's architect, while CBRE’s planning team has aided the planning application.
