NCC has been commissioned by Ale Municipality to enhance the water and wastewater infrastructure in Ale, situated north of Gothenburg, Sweden.
The project, valued at about Skr450m ($44.19m), is a turnkey contract in partnering form, designed to bolster the reliability of the municipality’s wastewater system for the future.
Since last August, NCC and Ale Municipality have collaborated on the planning and design of the project.
The latest initiative will expand the capacity of the wastewater network, ensuring the secure handling of wastewater from the region.
This is intended to safeguard the Göta Älv River, which is a protected water area and a drinking water source for Gothenburg and its vicinities.
The project includes laying a 12km-long transfer pipeline along the Göta Älv River.

By GlobalDataAdditionally, NCC will construct a drinking water pipeline and three pumping stations in the areas of Älvängen, Nol, and Nödinge.
The work also encompasses necessary adjustments to the existing water and wastewater network to meet environmental standards and diminish the risk of contamination.
NCC Infrastructure head Kenneth Nilsson said: “When we are involved from an early stage – as was the case in this project – we can add valuable expertise throughout the process and in cooperation with Ale Municipality create excellent solutions for this particular project.
“This type of multifaceted project is best when conducted in partnership as the client can then fully leverage our experience and expertise in constructing water and wastewater infrastructure.”
Construction is set to begin in November 2024, with an anticipated completion date in October 2026.
The order will be registered under the NCC Infrastructure business area in the third quarter of 2024.
This contract follows NCC’s engagement in the first phase of refurbishment for the Taastrupgaard district in Copenhagen, Denmark, earlier this month.
