NCC, a Nordic construction company, has been awarded a contract by the Swedish Fortifications Agency to develop the Villingsberg training ground and firing range in Karlskoga, Sweden.

The project, valued at approximately Skr300m ($29.57m), is a part of the re-establishment of the Bergslagen Artillery Regiment and encompasses the construction of service buildings and new infrastructure.

Specifically, NCC’s assignment includes the creation of a new vehicle maintenance and storage area, complete with buildings for training and services, as well as the installation of new water and wastewater systems and electricity and fibre networks.

Work has already begun and is expected to be completed in stages, with completion set for mid-2026.

This order will be recorded in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the first quarter of 2025.

Swedish Fortifications Agency project manager Malin Berglind said: “NCC has broad-based expertise in the area, making it an ideal partner in our efforts to re-establish the Bergslagen Artillery Regiment.”

NCC Infrastructure head Kenneth Nilsson added: “NCC and the Swedish Fortifications Agency have collaborated on several projects, and we appreciate the continued confidence. We look forward to playing a part in strengthening Sweden’s total defence.”

Operating in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland, NCC’s business activities cover a wide range, including building and infrastructure project contracting, asphalt and stone materials production, and commercial property development.

In 2024, the company reported sales of approximately Skr62bn and had a workforce of 11,800 employees.

Earlier this month, NCC entrusted Nordec with the task of designing and constructing the frame and envelope structures for a new train depot in Stockholm, Sweden.

Last month, NCC entered into a partnering agreement with LKAB, a mining and mineral group, to build a new sorting plant in Gällivare, Sweden.
