Nordic construction company NCC has been contracted to convert the heritage-listed Spritten factory buildings into a modern arts centre in Aalborg, Denmark.

The project, valued at approximately Skr190m ($17m), involves the refurbishment and remodelling of the historic distillery site, with construction to commence this month and be completed by early 2027.

Until 2015, the Spritten factory site functioned as a distillery.

NCC’s responsibilities extend to site remediation, selective demolition, and the construction of a new extension, covering a total area of 3,200m².

It is a turnkey contract for NCC, and the order value will be registered in the fourth quarter of 2024 under the NCC Building Nordics business area.

NCC Building Nordics area manager Jakob Søe Lundgaard said: “We plan to preserve the industrial heritage of the buildings and meticulously refurbish and remodel the areas so that they can serve a new purpose. We are proud to be able to play a part in giving our existing building stock a new lease of life.”

NCC’s business in the Nordic countries, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland, spans building and infrastructure project contracting, asphalt and stone materials production, and commercial property development.

Last month, the company secured a contract with Sporveien, the metro and tramway operator in Oslo, Norway. The contract involves a significant refurbishment of the Majorstuten metro station, focusing on improving accessibility in the track area and the station’s surroundings.

NCC was also selected for a refurbishment project in the Gellerup district of Aarhus, Denmark, by Brabrand Boligforening.
