NCC has signed a partnering agreement with the Liseberg amusement park to oversee the reconstruction of Oceana Water World in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The water destination suffered damage due to a fire earlier this year.

As investigations into the fire’s cause continue, with results anticipated in early 2025, Liseberg has taken steps to bridge finance the project until compensation conditions are clear.

Demolition and remediation efforts have been underway since March 2024, led by NCC, to mitigate further damage to the sections of Oceana that remain intact.

These efforts are set to carry on through mid-2024, with preliminary completion expected in 2026.

Liseberg CEO Andreas Andersen said: “With an agreement in place between NCC and Liseberg, we are jointly working towards the reconstruction of Oceana. The water park is preliminarily expected to be completed in 2026, which we are very much looking forward to.”

In 2020, the two signed a contract for the construction of the water park.

The latest contract between NCC and Liseberg, an addition to their existing agreement, is structured into two phases.

The initial phase, which starts immediately, includes the design, planning, and preliminary site works necessary before reconstruction can commence.

The subsequent phase, which involves the detailed design and actual construction work, will be initiated once Liseberg commissions the second phase.

The financial details of this phase will be recorded at that stage.

NCC Building Sweden head Niklas Sparw said: “NCC and Liseberg have maintained a close dialogue since the fire and this is an important step in moving closer to completing the project that we initiated together. There will now follow a number of months when we will jointly plan and design the reconstruction of Oceana.”

Earlier this month, NCC, in collaboration with fsbHJEMx, through a partnership agreement, secured a refurbishment project for 259 rental units in the Dommerparken area of Denmark.
