NCC has secured a contract with Sporveien, the Oslo metro and tramway operator, to carry out an extensive refurbishment of the Majorstuten metro station in Oslo, Norway.

The project is aimed at enhancing accessibility within the track area and the station’s surroundings, with an order value of approximately Skr350m ($31.85m).

The refurbishment plan includes the replacement of tracks and technical equipment, drainage improvements, and the expansion and refurbishment of platforms, ceilings, and roofs.

The station will also see new ramps, stairways, and service areas, as well as a new pedestrian and cycle bridge constructed over the tracks to the west of the station area.

The work is set to commence in April 2025 and is anticipated to continue until mid-2026.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to upgrade Oslo’s metro infrastructure, ensuring better mobility and service for the city’s inhabitants and visitors.

The order value will be registered in the fourth quarter of 2024 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.

NCC Infrastructure head Kenneth Nilsson said: “The station upgrade is necessary to improve the capacity and efficiency of the Oslo metro. The project consists of multiple disciplines and is therefore well suited to our expertise and our capability to implement infrastructure projects in urban environments.”

Sporveien development manager Hanna Rachel Broch said: “Upgrading the Majorstuen station is crucial if the metro is to run more frequently through the centre of Oslo in the future. Sporveien is therefore delighted to sign an agreement with NCC for the main works at Majorstuen station.

“NCC offered the best combination of price and quality. We now look forward to a busy summer of work in 2025.”

Last month, NCC secured a turnkey contract, with an order value of approximately Skr350m, to upgrade and extend the Heltågsverkstaden train maintenance depot in Solna, just outside Stockholm, Sweden.
