Nordic construction company NCC and the Liseberg amusement park have formalised an agreement for the reconstruction of Oceana Water World in Gothenburg, Sweden.

This task is a partnering contract with an order value of approximately Skr600m ($53.85m).

It includes rebuilding the water park, which suffered damage from a fire in February 2024.

Since March 2024, NCC has been engaged in demolition and remediation efforts at Oceana Water World. These initial steps were taken to preserve the undamaged sections of the facility and to prepare for the reconstruction phase.

Following this, in July 2024, NCC and Liseberg entered into an agreement to reconstruct Oceana and have since been planning and designing the project.

The recent agreement signals the transition from planning to active construction.

The construction project, with NCC as the main contractor, will involve the creation of a new water park tower, roof, facades, and extensive interior installations. The aim is to not only restore but also enhance the water world’s facilities.

The completion of the project is anticipated by the end of 2026.

Previously, NCC successfully delivered the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, marking the first phase of Liseberg’s expansion.

The contract for the Oceana Water World reconstruction will be recorded in the first quarter of 2025 within the NCC Building Sweden business area.

NCC Building Sweden head Niklas Sparw said: “We have now completed the final step and the reconstruction can now start in earnest. It is wonderful that, together with Liseberg, we will complete the project that we initiated many years ago.”

Liseberg CEO Andreas Andersen added: “I am delighted that we have now reached the turning point where we are starting to rebuild Oceana. It has been a tumultuous time since the fire, but now we can look ahead with confidence and focus on reopening the attraction. It’s an important project not only for Liseberg but also for Gothenburg.”

Earlier this month, NCC was awarded a contract to transform the heritage-listed Spritten factory buildings into a modern arts centre in Aalborg, Denmark.
