Muse, a UK-based homebuilder, has submitted a planning application to build 244 homes in the north-east of Horsham town centre, West Sussex, England.

The project, a collaboration between Muse, West Sussex County Council, and Muse’s sister company Lovell, aims to transform a brownfield site into a community space.

The site, which has been vacant for more than ten years, was previously used for pharmaceuticals.

In 2021, Muse was picked by West Sussex County Council as its preferred development partner. The company has henceforth engaged with local residents to receive their input.

Community feedback emphasised the requirement for affordable housing, catering to various household types and incorporating green elements.

Accordingly, the submitted plans include a range of housing, from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom family houses.

The development proposal also features energy-efficient homes, pedestrian-friendly routes, and access to local amenities and transport.

Lovell has submitted a separate application for the remaining portion of the site, which will offer a mix of affordable and for-sale housing options.

Muse development manager Ellen Bryan said: “We are delighted to reach this key milestone in bringing forward our vision for a high-quality neighbourhood in Horsham.

“Our proposals promise to deliver much-needed homes for local people, ensuring that this sustainably located brownfield site does not remain derelict but instead becomes a vibrant and inclusive community.

“Through close collaboration with West Sussex County Council and our partners, we are committed to creating a place that not only meets the housing needs of the community but also contributes to the wider social and economic prosperity of the area.”

Earlier this month, Muse was selected by the UK’s Durham County Council as a joint venture partner to commence the first phase of the Durham Innovation District.
