UK-based homebuilder Muse has submitted a planning application to Solihull Council, proposing a regeneration of Mell Square in Solihull’s town centre, England.
The proposal outlines the creation of up to 1,600 homes within a new mixed-use neighbourhood, complete with retail outlets, restaurants, and public spaces.
The regeneration plans for Mell Square are designed to enhance the town centre’s appeal and contribute to the diversification of the local economy.
The introduction of new town centre living options, including build-to-rent and affordable housing, is expected to draw young professionals and families to the area.
Additionally, the inclusion of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues aims to foster a vibrant evening and nighttime economy.
These proposals are the result of collaborative efforts involving community engagement and discussions with stakeholders throughout the town centre.
In November 2024, Muse hosted a Community Conversation event to present its emerging master-planned designs and concepts, featuring discussions with the Town Centre Forum and other partners.
As the local planning authority, Solihull Council will now review the application, with a decision set for later in 2025.
Should the council grant approval, the commencement of the first phase of construction could be as early as the following year.
Muse development director Lisa Turley said: “We have worked closely and in partnership with Solihull Council to develop an ambitious master plan proposal.
“It’s an approach which has been informed by detailed consultation with the community and partners from across the town centre. We’ll continue to work closely with established businesses, tenants, and residents as the process develops to minimise disruption and shape the next steps.”
Muse has also recently submitted plans to construct 244 homes in the north-east of Horsham town centre in West Sussex, England.
