Construction works are set to start this month on the first phase of the Moseley Road Baths and Balsall Heath Library restoration and redevelopment project in Birmingham, UK.

Moseley Road Baths is claimed to be one of the UK’s six Grade II-listed swimming baths.

The initial phase will focus on roof and facade works, starting with the erection of scaffolding next month.

Funding for the first phase has been secured through contributions from the UK government, Birmingham City Council, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The project represents a collaborative effort between Birmingham City Council and the Moseley Road Baths Charitable Incorporated Organisation, which has been managing the baths since 2017.

ISG has been selected as the main contractor for the first phase of this project.

ISG regional director Luke Arnold said: “We are delighted to undertake phase one major construction work at Moseley Road Baths, an iconic landmark in south Birmingham, supporting the local and city-wide community to realise the full benefits and legacy of this exciting project for current and future generations.”

This phase follows public engagement, allowing community input to influence the plans.

It will see a reconfiguration of visitor areas, including the reception spaces, the addition of a café to the Second-Class Slipper Baths, and more.

This phase marks a milestone in the ongoing campaign to save the baths, supported by a coalition comprising Historic England, World Monuments Fund, the National Trust, and the Friends of Moseley Road Baths.

The second phase, pending additional funding, aims to restore the iconic Gala Pool and transform Pool 2 into a permanent event space at the site.
