Morgan Sindall Construction has announced the completion of The Sycamores located in Woodlesford, UK.

This development is aimed at enhancing independent supported living in Leeds.

The £13.4m ($16.92) project, designed by P&HS Architects, is the company’s second Extra Care scheme for Lovell Later Living, Leeds City Council, and Home Group and follows the completion of the Greenmill Gardens Wellbeing community in the Seacroft area of the city in October 2022.

The Sycamores project is intended to maximise the independence of individuals requiring ongoing care, including those with health conditions and older people.

It comprises 62 one and two-bedroom self-contained apartments featuring contemporary kitchen facilities, ensuite bathrooms, and either a private balcony or patio.

The development also has communal areas, landscaped gardens, a community café, and a hair salon, which will serve both residents and the local community.

Throughout the construction of The Sycamores, Morgan Sindall implemented a comprehensive social value programme.

The project employed 33 apprentices and ensured that 75% of the labour spend was local.

Morgan Sindall Yorkshire area director Ben Hall said: “It’s been a real privilege for our team to play such an important role in creating outstanding extra care facilities for the people of Leeds and surrounding areas.

“During our build programme we’ve delivered a range of social value initiatives that have had a significant economic and social impact for the local community and it’s rewarding to know The Sycamores will continue to benefit the Woodlesford area and beyond for many years to come.”

For every £1 spent on the project, £2.67 was reinvested into the Leeds economy, and the project engaged in more than 60 hours of educational activities with the community.

In addition, Morgan Sindall applied its Intelligent Solutions approach to modify the build sequence and ceiling details.

This allowed for the installation of full-size plasterboards without offcuts.

The new approach on site also led to 33.7t of CO2 saved during the construction process.

Earlier this week, Morgan Sindall Construction celebrated the completion of the initial phase of Winton Community Academy works.
