Cardiff Council has selected Morgan Sindall Construction as the contractor for the new Willows High School project in Cardiff, Wales, UK.
The initiative, part of the Band B, Sustainable Communities for Learning programme, is a collaboration between Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government.
The project, exceeding £60m ($79.19m), aims to enhance educational facilities and includes the construction of a sports hall, gym, drama studio, and grass pitches, which will be open to the community after school hours.
The new school will accommodate 900 students aged 11 to 16 and include a Special Resource Base for 30 pupils with specific needs. Plans also involve improving pedestrian access to encourage active travel to and from the school.
Cardiff Council deputy leader and councillor Sarah Merry said: “When completed, the new Willows High School will provide exceptional educational amenities, expertise and teaching opportunities for students and staff. This represents significant investment in the local area and the whole community will benefit from the improved facilities provided at the new school, including sports pitches available for public use.”
Cardiff Council’s Planning Committee approved the project in May this year, with Morgan Sindall Construction initiating enabling works last month.
