The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) board of directors has awarded a construction contract to West Alliance Construction for the new Monte Creek Firehall in Canada.
The contract has a maximum value of C$1.045m ($766,526), following a competitive tender process.
The new firehall will be situated at 1257 Hook Road.
This site was donated by the Herman family specifically for the purpose of constructing a firehall to serve the community.
Late last year, the Canadian Agricultural Land Commission gave its approval to allow the use of a 1ha land parcel for the firehall.
The Monte Creek Fire Protection Service Area encompasses 356 parcels across Electoral Areas ‘L’ and ‘P’.

Following a referendum in May 2022, a structural fire protection service was initiated in the region on 1 January 2023.
The detailed design phase for the Monte Creek Firehall is scheduled to be finalised in mid-2024.
Construction is anticipated to commence later this year with completion expected by mid-2025.
Currently, the Monte Creek Fire Department responds to emergencies from the Pritchard Firehall in collaboration with the Pritchard Fire Department.
This partnership is set to continue beyond the completion of the Monte Creek Firehall, offering service for residents within both Fire Protection Service Areas.
The TNRD oversees nine rural fire departments, offering structural fire protection across various areas within the regional district.
