McDermott subsidiary CB&I has received a contract for the engineering, procurement, and construction of two welded diesel tanks with ten million litres working capacity each at Viva Energy‘s facility in Newport, Melbourne, Australia.
This project includes the replacement of existing riveted diesel storage tanks and associated civil, structural, mechanical, and piping works.
The new diesel tanks will be built above ground which will lessen environmental impact while improving active monitoring and maintenance.
The existing tanks are approaching the end of their operational life, which was identified as part of Viva Energy’s maintenance and supply chain optimisation programmes.
The contract will be managed from CB&I’s Brisbane office, with additional support from the company’s Thailand office for engineering and fabrication tasks.
The construction activities are scheduled to begin in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024, aiming for project completion by the end of 2025. According to CB&I, a contract is considered sizeable if its value falls between $10m and $50m.
