A team led by Lunda Construction, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tutor Perini, has been awarded a contract worth $220m for design and construction of the new I-70 Missouri River Bridge near Rocheport in Missouri, the US.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has awarded the contract to the team that includes Parsons Transportation Group, Dan Brown & Associates, and Hugh Zeng United.
Work on the project involves design and construction of two bridges, one in each direction of travel, with each comprising three lanes.
This will allow the construction of the two bridges to take place with a limited impact to traffic.
The current Missouri River Bridge was constructed in 1960 and is rated as being in poor condition.
Tutor Perini stated that the design-build team’s proposal had to meet or exceed several goals, which include minimising traffic impacts during and after construction, maximising safety and capacity, and providing a high-quality, durable, low-maintenance project that improves safety and reliability.

By GlobalDataDesign work on the new bridge is set to begin shortly after contracts are executed.
The construction on the project is planned to commence later this year with completion expected by the end of 2024.
Additionally, Lunda is replacing the County Road BB Bridge over I-70.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson said: “This bridge lies at the heart of Missouri and not only connects the two sides of our state but the majority of our country.
“With over 12 million vehicles using the bridge each year and trucks carrying goods to all corners of the country, it is vital that we have world-class infrastructure in place that can meet the demand.
“This new bridge will keep people moving safely and drive economic activity in our state and local communities.”
