Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has secured new contracts in India and the Middle East.
In India, PT&D will implement 765kV and 400kV transmission lines in Uttar Pradesh and a 400kV line in southern India. These projects are seen as crucial for evacuating power from renewable energy zones.
Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, PT&D has won a contract for a 380kV gas-insulated substation (GIS), including reactors and hybrid GIS bays. Additionally, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the company will set up a 220kV/33kV grid station.
According to L&T, these repeat orders from longstanding clients underscore its role in building efficient grid infrastructure and facilitating quicker renewable energy proliferation.
These contracts have been classified as ‘Large’ by L&T, which the company defines as carrying value between Rs250bn and Rs500bn ($3bn and $6bn).
L&T, a $27bn Indian multinational, operates in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects, hi-tech manufacturing, and services across multiple geographies.
Last month, the company’s Minerals & Metals (M&M) vertical secured an order from Hindalco for an 850 kilotonnes per annum greenfield alumina refinery in the Indian state of Odisha.
The scope includes EPC, as well as installation.
L&T has partnered with Hindalco for more than three decades, contributing to its expansion in alumina, aluminium, and copper plants.
M&M also won an order for an eight million tonnes per annum pellet plant from an Indian steel producer. The project involves engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction, and installation with renowned technology providers.
L&T executive committee member and advisor to the CMD DK Sen said: “M&M has successfully commissioned several steel plants and alumina refinery projects, both greenfield and brownfield, across India and the Middle East.”
L&T’s M&M vertical offers EPC solutions in mining, minerals processing, industrial products, and material handling.
