L&T Construction announced that its Water & Effluent Treatment business unit has won multiple engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts to execute rural piped water supply schemes in many districts of Madhya Pradesh, India.
The construction company has classified the orders as ‘Large’, which is worth between INR25bn ($340m) and INR50bn ($677m).
The projects awarded are said to be part of Jal Jeevan Mission and cover five districts including Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Agar Malwa and Singrauli.
Under the contract, the business unit will be responsible for the design and construction of intake structures, water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 377MLD, transmission and distribution pipelines of length 17,513km.
It will also provide design and construction services for 23 master balancing reservoirs with a total capacity of 17.5ML, 1313 overhead service reservoirs of total capacity 193ML, 46 nos. of sump and pumphouse of aggregate capacity 46ML.
The work also includes 650,000 house service connections as well as the associated electromechanical and instrumentation works along with 10 years of operations and maintenance services.

By GlobalDataL&T said that the project also includes automation and measurement of water quantity and quality using the SCADA system.
The project is estimated to serve drinking water requirement of nearly 3,103 villages which covers nearly about 4.8 million people.
The construction company said that the projects are part of the government’s plan to provide piped water supply to every rural household by 2024.
The Water & Effluent Treatment business unit has also been awarded a contract to carry out integrated infrastructure development works at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
The project estimated the development of nearly 800 acres of Maharajbada region in the city with the construction of 16km of smart roads, five acres of urban parks, 31km of stormwater drains, multilevel underground car parking as well as underground power distribution system.
