Skanska USA has announced the opening of the LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall (Headhouse) in New York, US.

Skanska-Walsh Joint Venture, in partnership with HOK and WS, is responsible for the construction and design of the new Terminal B.

The new four-level Headhouse serves as the central entry point for travellers flying out of Terminal B.It provides access to passenger concourses and gates, the new parking garage, and the Central Hall that connects to Terminal C and the planned future AirTrain.

The new Headhouse features an open floor plan with 60-foot tall ceilings and a glass façade. The first floor comprises a new ground transportation centre, and arrivals hall and baggage claim on level two.

The level three of the building is for check-in while the fourth-floor comprises shops, restaurants and other customer amenities, and concourse bridges.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey chairman Kevin O’Toole said: “The completion of the new Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall represents our commitment to providing the safest travel experience possible while ensuring a world-class travel experience.

“The terminal features spacious, centralised check-in, state-of-the-art security technology that has been integrated from curbside to gate, and modern concessions, shopping and art. In the midst of this important reimagining of LGA, we face new challenges posed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.”

The new development is part of the New York Governor Cuomo’s plan, which was unveiled in 2015, for the comprehensive redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport, with an investment of $8bn.
