UK-based construction and infrastructure services provider Kier has commenced work at the £5m crematorium project in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
The company secured the contract from Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, through the Procure Partnerships Framework.
The facility will feature a ceremonial hall for multi-faith services, a crematory hall to hold the cremation plant and equipment as well as an admin/office building.
The external works on the project involves memorial gardens, construction of covered walkways, new roads, car park and forming a new access to the site from the A47.
The construction company and the council’s in-house landscaping division are working together to complete the soft landscaping and planting scheme.
Additionally, the crematorium project is expected to be delivered early next year.

By GlobalDataHinckley and Bosworth Borough Council leader Cllr Stuart Bray said: “It is fantastic to see this milestone reached. Once complete, we will be able to offer a modern, fit-for-purpose crematorium facility that meets the growing needs of the population of Hinckley and Bosworth and surrounding areas.
“With the nearest available crematorium currently located in Nuneaton, the new crematorium will provide an alternative affordable cremation facility with reduced waiting times for services and reduced traveling times for Hinckley and Bosworth residents.
“The facility will complement the council’s cemetery services, create jobs, enhance the appearance of the site, and will fit well with the burial services provided by the Borough Council.”
Recently, Kier has also started construction work at the £15.5m leisure centre and community hub project on the Festival Hall site in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, the UK.
