Taste and nutrition company Kerry Group has announced plans to invest $125m to expand its food manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia of the US.

Intended to meet the demand in the poultry and seafood markets, the expansion project is expected to create more than 400 jobs during the construction phase and more than 100 new jobs when the facility is fully operational.

Construction on the expansion project will commence immediately and is scheduled for completion by early 2021.

The project is expected to more than double the production capacity of at the existing site.

Kerry Taste & Nutrition North America CEO Gerry Behan said: “This new Georgia facility will be one of the most advanced and modern food manufacturing facilities in the world to support our customers as they produce tasty and nutritious food products, which will be consumed all across the U.S. and Canada.

“This type of world-class facility allows us to co-create with our customers to produce tasty and nutritious food products that meet changing consumer demand.”

As part of its sustainability efforts, Kerry is planning to use 100% renewable electricity to power the new facility.

Rome-Floyd County Development Authority chairman Jimmy Byars said: “Our existing industries remain a strong driver in the creation of capital investment and jobs for Rome and Floyd County.

“We will continue to support them in every way possible.”

The upgraded facility will have the capacity to produce integrated taste and nutrition solutions to meet the growing demand in the poultry, seafood and alternative protein markets.

Kerry said that the 360,000ft² facility, upon completion, will be one of the most modern and efficient of its kind in the world.
