Scottish construction and building company The JR Group has initiated an affordable housing development project, breaking ground on 43 new energy-efficient flats at Nimmo Drive in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland.

This project, commissioned by Elderpark Housing Association, is set to transform the former Mac Ventilation factory site and the Elder Park community centre into a residential area.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Elderpark Housing Association members and Glasgow City Council’s deputy leader and local councillor Ricky Bell.

According to The JR Group, the project is poised to revitalise the derelict site and integrate seamlessly into Govan’s established community.

The new residential complex will feature a diverse range of one- to four-bedroom apartments, distributed across two blocks.

Each block will be equipped with lift access, sustainable heating systems, as well as ample space for amenities.

Elderpark Housing Association CEO Gary Dalziel said: “Elderpark Housing has been working with The JR Group and partners over the recent period to design, develop and now construct 43 outstanding new socially rented flats within the heart of our community.

“These new flats will replace the former Elderpark Community Centre and an adjacent industrial unit and provide much-needed homes which are built to the highest standard and we are extremely grateful to Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government for their support in providing significant funding to make this project achievable within the challenging economic environment.

“We are excited to see the construction work beginning on these new homes and look forward to their completion currently anticipated for 2026.”

Apart from Elderpark Housing Association, The JR Group is also partnering with Trust Housing Association for development services.

MAST Architects, Carbon Futures, Iceni Planning, and Clyde Design Partnership are among the other organisations contributing to the successful realisation of this project.

In preparation for the construction, The JR Group has facilitated the relocation of various community classes and activities from the Elder Park community centre to the newly refurbished Gowan Library nearby, ensuring continued access to community services during the development phase.
