SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) subsidiary Terra Solar Philippines has selected Jacobs to support a renewable energy project, estimated at $3.3bn.
Meralco PowerGen (MGEN) Renewable Energy, the renewable energy arm of MGEN, holds a controlling stake in SPNEC.
Jacobs will be responsible for delivering engineering services, technical advice, and construction phase services for a 3,500MW solar panel along with a 4,500MW battery energy storage system.
The Terra Solar project in the Philippines aims to supply approximately 12% of the country’s total energy demand upon completion.
Jacobs vice-president Fiachra Ó Cléirigh said: “The Philippines is highly dependent on coal for electricity generation. The Terra Solar project will significantly reduce the country’s reliance on coal, decrease energy-related emissions and bolster progress toward a more sustainable, secure and resilient energy system.
“Our work will help scale innovation to make sustainable energy a reality faster and for more people, across the country.”

By GlobalDataLocated 150km north of Philippine capital Manila, the project is expected to be one of the largest solar farms globally.
Jacobs plans to utilise drone technology and advanced digital construction management tools for managing field tasks, streamlining inspections, and tracking progress across the 3,000ha site.
In addition to engineering services, Jacobs will handle activities related to supply chain and equipment delivery logistics. This will accelerate the shipping and installation of several solar panels.
MGEN Renewable Energy president Dennis Jordan said: “Not only will Terra Solar provide clean energy for the Philippines, but it will also change the whole dynamics of the energy industry.
“With the combination of solar and battery technologies, we see that it will be able to compete with conventional energy sources, and provide not just a low-emission energy source, but an economical one as well.”
