IMCO Construction and Stantec have broken ground on the Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) Water Resilience Project in Idaho, US.

The event was attended by community members, representatives from the Idaho Water Resource Board (IWRB), the US Air Force, and the governor’s office.

This project is designed to ensure a reliable water source for the MHAFB, as well as meet future demands.

The IWRB is spearheading the construction of a water inlet, pump station, and a 14.4-mile transmission pipeline to transport Snake River water from the CJ Strike Reservoir to the base.

In addition, the US Army Corps of Engineers, on behalf of the US Air Force, is overseeing the construction of a new water treatment plant to process the surface water supplied by the State of Idaho.

Stantec senior principal and practice leader Michael Fuss said: “IMCO and Stantec are excited to be part of such a significant project for the State of Idaho and the MHAFB.

“The ground-breaking for the MHAFB Water Resilience Project is a monumental step in helping the State of Idaho and the federal government meet ambitious water supply goals. We are thrilled to see this project come to life.”

IMCO and Stantec are collaborating on the engineering design, construction, and oversight of the water intake, pump station, and pipeline.

The IWRB meanwhile, will manage the project’s financing, design, construction, and maintenance.

IMCO Construction project manager Todd Pike said: “We are incredibly proud to be contributing to bringing improved water supply to Idaho and the Mountain Home Air Force Base. Providing water infrastructure is critical to supporting healthy communities and is core to who we are.”

The project is supported by $100m from the American Rescue Plan Act’s State Fiscal Recovery Funds, as appropriated by House Bill 769 passed by the 2022 Idaho Legislature.

Recently, Stantec completed the Priest Rapids Right Embankment Improvement Project in Mattawa, Washington.
