The New South Wales (NSW) state government of Australia has selected Hutchinson Builders as the main works contractor for the Moree Hospital redevelopment.

The A$105m ($66.8m) project will see a new Acute Services Building built on the current hospital campus.

This new building will include an emergency department, operating theatres, medical imaging, a birthing and inpatient unit, and pathology services.

Construction is scheduled to start in the coming months.

The hospital will maintain its operations as a District Hospital during the redevelopment phase, continuing to serve the Moree community and remaining connected to Tamworth Hospital for specialist services.

In January this year, the project secured planning approval.

Throughout the planning stages, the NSW Government says it engaged in consultations with hospital staff and locals.

Additionally, a Language Reference Group is contributing to the project by integrating native language and stories into the hospital’s signage and wayfinding systems. Plans also include the incorporation of arts projects within the new Acute Services Building.

NSW Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said: “We’ve reached a significant milestone in the delivery of the redevelopment which will deliver enhanced healthcare facilities for Moree and surrounding communities.

“The Moree Hospital Redevelopment will provide staff, patients, families and carers with a modern facility to support the health needs of the community now and into the future.

“All hospital services will continue to operate during construction, which follows significant planning and design work in collaboration with staff, stakeholders and the community.”

Last month, the NSW Government selected a project team for the A$265m upgrade of Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
