Work has begun on the trainshed roof of Huddersfield’s Grade I listed station in West Yorkshire, UK, as part of a multibillion-pound rail upgrade.
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) aims to provide faster, more reliable, and eco-friendlier train services across Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York.
The station is undergoing a redesign, which includes the construction of new, longer platforms and additional tracks.
These enhancements are designed to accommodate a greater number of trains, providing additional seating capacity for passengers.
Recent months have seen the completion of mining mitigation efforts, ensuring the stability and safety of the surrounding area.
The work to strengthen Huddersfield Viaduct has been undertaken in preparation for the installation of new railway tracks.

By GlobalDataAdditionally, the TRU team has initiated the dismantling of the station’s listed tearoom.
It will be preserved and stored during the platform remodelling process, with plans to restore, repaint, and reinstate it at the station upon completion of the works.
To facilitate these upgrades, the TRU team is preparing for a series of weekend line closures next month.
TransPennine Express major projects and TRU director Chris Nutton said: “It’s exciting to see the work that’s taking place at Huddersfield, with restoration works on the iconic roof set to commence, as colleagues from Network Rail continue to transform the iconic station.
“To accommodate the major upgrade works, the station will be closed on weekends between 3 Saturday August and 1 Sunday September, excluding the bank holiday weekend. While that work is happening, there will be some changes to our services, including diversions on some routes and rail replacement buses on others.”
