A tender has been issued for the design and construction of a two-storey modular classroom block at Highgate Primary School in Perth, Western Australia (WA).

The A$12m ($7.9m) project is part of the WA Labor Government’s A$4.4bn investment in the development of new and improved school facilities across the state.

The facility, anticipated to be ready for the 2026 school year, will be constructed off-site in parts.

It is being designed to minimise on-site construction disruption and cater to the educational needs of 160 students.

The new block will feature six general learning classrooms, internal activity areas, dedicated teacher facilities, and additional toilets for both students and staff.

To support the installation of the modular classroom block, upgrades to the school’s power supply have been completed.

Fire services upgrades are also in progress, with an expected completion date in September.

The school has also seen other enhancements, including toilet refurbishments, the installation of additional solar panels, new turf, and the recent addition of synthetic turf.

In addition, planning for the new Inner City Primary School in East Perth is moving forward.

This new school is expected to provide long-term enrolment relief for Highgate Primary School.

WA Education Minister tony Buti said: “My priority is ensuring all WA families have access to a great education close to home. Inner-city living is an increasingly popular choice for families, and we are committed to meeting this demand with high-quality education facilities.

“I’m pleased to announce the next step for this exciting project which will offer additional facilities for students and staff, and the broader school community. This innovative building will provide exceptional classrooms for students and will help meet demand at this popular school.”
