Construction company GRAHAM has been selected to resume work on the City Centre Cultural Gateway (CCCG) in Coventry, England, UK.

This appointment follows the previous contractor ISG’s entry into administration last September.

Now, with this appointment, the development of the cultural hub, once an IKEA store, is back on track.

GRAHAM’s appointment has been accepted by the project’s partners, including Arts Council England, the British Council, CV Life, and Coventry University.

Arts Council England, which manages significant collections of contemporary British art, will see its collection reach even more people through this initiative.

The British Council, meanwhile, is relocating its national collection of British art from the 20th century onwards to Coventry, enhancing the city’s cultural offerings.

CV Life is set to consolidate its stored items within the CCCG, streamlining the management and exhibition of its collection.

Finally, Coventry University plans to occupy the fifth and sixth floors of the building to expand its campus facilities, focusing on research, innovation, and enterprise.

The collective efforts of these partners are expected to drive Coventry’s cultural development forward.

GRAHAM will commence work in early 2025, with project completion anticipated by mid-2026.

Coventry City Council housing and communities cabinet member and councillor Naeem Akhtar said: “We’re delighted that GRAHAM is on board to complete the construction of this significant project.

“Despite unforeseen and challenging circumstances, Coventry City Council has moved swiftly to secure a new contractor to get the project back on track and within the approved budget, meaning no additional money is needed for the construction.

“Not only are we bringing high-profile national partners to the city, there’s also the potential to bring so much more to Coventry. We’ll have the ability to create opportunities for people in this sector and for residents here in our city with what will be an impressive cultural destination.”

Additionally, GRAHAM will lead the construction of the new Ballycastle Leisure Centre in Northern Ireland, with work set to begin this month.
