UK-based construction company Graham has secured a construction contract worth £161m to construct Baird Family Hospital and ANCHOR Centre project for NHS Grampian in Aberdeen, the UK.

The project is claimed to be the largest healthcare project to be procured through the Health Facilities Scotland Framework, and the company is now preparing to commence work next month.

The Baird Family Hospital will be constructed on the site that was formerly occupied by the Foresterhill Health Centre and Breast Screening Centre on the Foresterhill Health Campus in Aberdeen.

The hospital will combine all maternity, neonatal, reproductive medicine, breast and gynaecology services, as well as dedicated teaching along with research facilities.

Connecting to the existing Radiotherapy Centre, the ANCHOR Centre will bring all haematology, oncology and radiotherapy day and outpatient services under one roof.

The facility will also include a lounge for teenage and young adult patients, an aseptic pharmacy to provide chemotherapy treatments and dedicated teaching as well as research facilities.

The construction of the new amenities is part of NHS Grampian’s continued investment in new and improved facilities across the North East of Scotland.

NHS Grampian director Alan Gray said: “Both projects will provide world-class facilities for staff, patients and their families, and an environment that has been designed with accessibility, quality and patient care firmly at the centre.”

Meanwhile, Graham has commenced construction on £53m Poynton relief road for Cheshire East Council.

In November last year, the company was awarded a £26.8m design and build contract.

Since then it has been undertaking detailed design and site surveys, along with ecological surveys and the creation of new ecological habitat.

Graham is now undertaking works to clear parts of the site and prepare the road’s ground for construction.

The 3km single carriageway relief road will include two overbridge crossings for use by walkers, cyclists and farm vehicles.

Slated to open for traffic in Autumn 2022, the project will also include a 3.5-metre-wide combined cycle and footway beside the length of the route on the western side of the main carriageway.
