Construction company GRAHAM has commenced work on a substantial £124.5m ($161.7m) student accommodation project in Glasgow, Scotland, contracted by Unite Students, a student accommodation provider.
The project, which includes 934 beds, is scheduled for completion by the 2027-28 academic year.
Piling works are currently in progress, with a ground-breaking ceremony marking the significant milestone.
Located near the University of Glasgow’s main campus, the Central Quay project is set to revitalise a brownfield site that has been earmarked for regeneration since Unite Students acquired it in November 2024.
Once finished, this will expand Unite Students’ portfolio in Glasgow to a total of 3,200 beds.
The new facility will provide outdoor spaces for the wider community. The development will feature a range of amenities including a café, yoga room, gym, study areas, and a garden terrace.
Furthermore, it aims to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Excellent certification, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.
Unite Students group development director Tom Brewerton said: “Central Quay will provide much-needed high-quality, affordable housing for students in Glasgow, helping to meet the rising demand. This in turn will free up homes for local families, easing shortages in the private sector.
“The site, north of the River Clyde, is located adjacent to one of Glasgow’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods. The accommodation boasts great facilities, both social and study, making it a real hub for students. It’s a great addition to our portfolio in this important university city.”
GRAHAM Building North regional managing director Gary Holmes said: “We are delighted to be working with Unite Students at Central Quay and to further strengthen our longstanding partnership.”
GRAHAM is also involved in another project for Unite Students, constructing Burnet Point in Edinburgh. This development consists of 298 student bedrooms, a mix of cluster and studio flats, as well as 66 one-to-three-bedroom flats and 17 affordable housing units.
Last month, GRAHAM was appointed by Sefton Council as a contractor to manage the Marine Lake Events Centre project in Southport, UK.
