Construction has commenced on the new A$25m ($15.67m) Goulburn Police Station in New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
This project, located on McDermott Drive, will replace the existing station on Sloane Street to become a central regional policing hub for the Goulburn district.
The new facility will feature a Command office, a General Duties area, a Charge area, spaces for conducting interviews and testing, storage facilities, changing rooms, a dock area, and car parks.
The station’s planning phase, which began in 2021, encountered several challenges that have since been resolved, allowing construction to begin this month.
In addition to this police station, early works have commenced on a new indoor firing range at the Goulburn Police Academy.
This range will include 12m times 25m lanes with a retractable system, a control room, an observation room, a weapon training area, and a gun cleaning room.
This firing range is part of a broader A$74m upgrade to the academy, which encompasses new technology and training facilities for recruits.
The range, as well as the new Goulburn Police Station, are expected to be operational by the second half (H2) of 2026.
NSW Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said: “Our police do incredible work keeping our community safe and the new station will ensure officers have the modern facilities and resources to continue to fight crime and support this growing region.
“The current Goulburn Police Station is 115 years old, so it’s certainly time for an upgrade.
“Hundreds of recruits train at the Goulburn Police Academy every year – we’re investing in new facilities and modern technology to ensure these new police officers are well-trained to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
NSW Police Force Assistant Commissioner Rod Smith said: “Alongside the most up-to-date technology and facilities, this new station will provide a centralised location to bring specialist police like Prosecutors, Investigators, Forensic, Rescue and Highway Patrol officers to work alongside General Duties officers.”
In January this year, the NSW Government, in collaboration with Australia’s federal government, started construction on the Eurobodalla Emergency Services Precinct in the town of Moruya.
